Copying 2014 (5E) Subclasses to 2024 (5.5E) Classes

As of today, much of the content on Shard Tabletop was originally built around the 2014 5E ruleset. But with the arrival of newer systems and rules frameworks, including Tales of the Valiant and the 2024 5.5E update, many players may want to continue using older content in these newer systems.

The good news is that Shard makes that process quick and easy. This guide will show you how to copy a 2014 subclass into a 2024 class so it can be used during character creation. You can also check out this video guide on our YouTube page.

Pick Up the New Classes

If you haven’t already, make sure you’ve added the 2024 Player’s Handbook Compatibility Pack (or the Black Flag Roleplaying Reference for Tales of the Valiant) to your account. Both are available for free in the Marketplace.

Copying the 2014 (5E) Class

Once the compatibility pack has been added, head back to your main play page.

  1. Choose the class you want to work with.

  2. Open the version of the class that lists Shard Player’s Guide Volume I as its source. This is the 2014 version.

  3. Go to the class’s Subclasses section.

  4. Find the subclass you want to bring over.

  5. Click Copy to.

  6. Select the 2024 version of that class.

  7. Confirm your selection.

Once complete, you should be able to select this subclass when creating a 2024 character. Repeat as necessary for any other subclasses you’d like to bring over to either D&D 2024 (5.5) or Tales of the Valiant! Note: Most 5E Kobold Press subclasses do not align with progression of Tales of the Valiant subclasses, and may need to be modified further depending on you or your Gamemaster’s preferences.
